Vehicle collision with TRAX train causes delays in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Riders on UTA's Green Line were delayed Sunday morning after a vehicle collided with a TRAX train on North Temple at Redwood Road.

The crash happened about 7:15 a.m. The vehicle was driving north on Redwood Road when the driver ran a red light and hit the eastbound train broadside, Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky said.

No one was injured in the crash, Arky said, but the impact caused the train to derail.

Arky said investigators believe fatigue on the part of the vehicle driver may have played a role in the crash.

The accident caused delays for riders of the southbound Green Line for several hours. A UTA tweet said the train was re-railed and towed away by 10:20 a.m., but riders should plan for 10-minute delays until further notice, due to signal problems.
