GREEN RIVER, Emery County — Officials have identified two men who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 6 near Green River Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on the highway about 4 miles north of the I-70 interchange shortly before 7:30 a.m, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials. Troopers said a Ford F-150 traveling in the westbound lane and a Toyota Camry traveling in the eastbound lane collided head-on.
The driver of the Camry died at the scene. He was later identified as Jim R. Nelson, 37, of Price.
The driver of the truck was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died from his injuries. He was later identified as William James T. Palmer, 33, of Moab.
The crash remains under investigation. Officials said there was "moderate" fog in the area at the time, which "likely contributed to the crash."
A drone was brought to the scene to help crews investigate the collision.
The crash closed the highway in both directions for more than an hour. Utah Department of Transportation officials reported a lane reopened for alternating traffic in the area shortly before 9 a.m. and both lanes were open and unimpacted by noon.
