LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Dedric Lawson had 13 points and 15 rebounds, helping No. 5 Kansas hold off No. 23 Oklahoma for a 70-63 victory. Brady Manek had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Sooners.

UNDATED (AP) — Houston has hired West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen as its coach, ending his eight-year run with the Mountaineers. Holgorsen was 61-41 and 33-30 in the Big 12 as he helped guide West Virginia through the transition from the Big East to the Power Five conference. Houston fired coach Major Applewhite after a rocky two seasons in which he went 15-10.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma receiver Marquise Brown will skip his senior season and declare himself eligible for the NFL draft. He will leave as one of Oklahoma's all-time great receivers. In two seasons, he caught 132 passes for 2,413 yards and 17 touchdowns. He leaves No. 6 in career yards receiving.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Lindell Wigginton, playing just his second game since missing 10 with a foot injury, scored 17 points and had eight rebounds to help lead Iowa State to a 69-63 victory over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams. Marial Shayok scored 17 points, while also chipping in six rebounds, for Iowa State, while Nick Weiler-Babb had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. The Cyclones won their fourth straight.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Jarrett Culver scored each of his 18 points in the second half, and No. 11 Texas Tech overcame some early shooting troubles to beat West Virginia 62-59 in their Big 12 opener. Matt Mooney added 14 points and Davide Moretti scored 12 for Texas Tech.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kace Febres scored 23 points and Texas Longhorns won its Big 12 Conference opener for the 15th time in 23 seasons, picking up a 67-47 win over short-handed Kansas State. Kansas State's Kamau Stokes, who averages 11.1 points per game, reinjured the ankle that sidelined him for much of last season during a morning shooting session and did not dress for the game. The Wildcats were already without Dean Wade, who is recovering for a foot injury.

UNDATED (AP) — The College Football Playoff is not quite halfway through a 12-year contract with ESPN that runs through 2026. Expansion seems inevitable. The question is when. And there are a number of obstacles in the way. That includes the overall length of the season, location, player safety and the structure of the bowl system. Playoff officials meet next week and may discuss the potential for changes in the future.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 5 Kansas at Iowa State headlines the opening week of Big 12 play. The Jayhawks are the heavy favorites to win the league for a mind-boggling 15th year in a row. But the Cyclones might be the Big 12's biggest sleeper. Iowa State only stumbled twice in non-league play, losing to Arizona and Iowa without star Lindell Wigginton and center Solomon Young, each of whom has returned to the lineup.
