UNDATED (AP) — The NFL playoff chase went down to the final minutes of the season yesterday. In are the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. Out are the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Tennessee Titans and the Minnesota Vikings. The playoffs start Saturday with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Seattle Seahawks and the Colts in Houston to play the Texans.
SEATTLE (AP) — The Arizona needed a loss on the road against a playoff team yesterday to secure the top pick in the NFL draft in April, and they nearly blew it. The Cardinals were tied at 24 with the Seahawks in Seattle heading into the final seconds. But Sebastian Janikowski got them off the hook by making a 33-yard field goal, to hand the Cardinals their league-leading 13th defeat. Final score: Seahawks 27-Cardinals 24.
BALTIMORE (AP) — It was not the final outcome he wanted in Baltimore Sunday, but Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield hit a significant milestone. He threw three touchdown passes in the Brown's 26-24 loss to the Ravens, to finish the season with 27. That's an NFL record for a rookie. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ') has joined elite company this season. In Sunday's 35-3 blowout of the Oakland Raiders, Mahomes threw a pair of touchdown passes to become the third quarterback in NFL history with 50 in a season. Peyton Manning set the record of 55 with the Broncos in 2013, while the Patriots' Tom Brady threw also threw 50 touchdown passes in the 2007 season.
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a chest injury, Nick Foles tied Philip Rivers' NFL record for consecutive completions Sunday by connecting on 25 straight passes in Philadelphia's 24-0 win over Washington.
