The College Football Playoff semifinals are Saturday, with the top-ranked Crimson Tide facing No. 4 Oklahoma at the Orange Bowl in South Florida and No. 2 Clemson playing No. 3 Notre Dame at the Cotton Bowl in North Texas.
DALLAS (AP) — Coach Dabo Swinney has built Clemson into what Notre Dame used to be and what Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly is trying to recreate. The second-ranked Tigers (13-0) face the third-ranked Irish (12-0) on Saturday in Notre Dame's first College Football Playoff appearance. It is Clemson's fourth straight. The winner will play for the national championship on Jan. 7 in Santa Clara, California. Clemson has played for the title twice in the past three seasons.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Eric Dungey threw for 303 yards, and Syracuse capped its first 10-win season since 2001 with a 34-18 win over West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl. Abdul Adams rushed for two touchdowns in his Syracuse debut after transferring in, and fellow transfer newcomer Trishton Jackson caught a TD pass from Dungey. BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Ahmed Hill scored 20 points and No. 10 Virginia Tech shot nearly 66 percent as it drubbed Maryland-Eastern Shore 85-40, the Hokies' sixth consecutive victory. Andrew Kostecka scored 27 points to lead the Greyhounds.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Jake Bentley threw for 510 yards and five touchdowns against the Clemson Tigers last month, so don't expect the South Carolina quarterback to be afraid of anyone even if his best wide receiver won't be playing against Virginia in the Belk Bowl. Bentley says South Carolina's offense has a "never scared mentality." Gamecocks receiver Deebo Samuel won't play after deciding to begin preparations for the NFL draft rather than risk injury in the Belk Bowl.
ATLANTA (AP) — Abdoulaye Gueye came off the bench to tie a career-high with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Georgia Tech had five players score in double figures in an 87-57 blowout win over Kennesaw State. The Yellow Jackets (7-5) never trailed against their local foe, took a 26-point lead at halftime, and went on to come within a point of their season high as reserve Evan Cole scored 11 points, and Jose Alvarado, Moses Wright and Brandon Alston added 10 points each.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Emese Hof had a double-double, Kelsey Marshall and Beatrice Mompremier split 34 points and Miami reached 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time in school history, cruising past Florida A&M 103-54.
