PROVO, Utah (AP) — A former Utah high school counselor, assistant girls' basketball coach and driver's education teacher has been sentenced for sexual misconduct with a student. The Daily Herald reports Judge Lynn Davis on Wednesday sentenced Dylan Dewey to 90 days in the Utah County Jail for a class A misdemeanor of unlawful sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old. The 35-year-old Dewey was given credit for the one day he served in jail after his arrest in May. Dewey worked at Spanish Fork High School.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Two black Idaho State University football players are suing law enforcement in Idaho and Utah, claiming they were illegally detained and arrested, and victims of excessive force based on their race. Nehemiah McFarlin and Atoatasi Fox filed a civil rights lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Utah. According to the complaint, McFarlin and Fox were wrongly searched, handcuffed and told they were under arrest for bank robbing while waiting for assistance following a single-car crash.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A new report by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights finds that federal funding levels for Native American tribes remain woefully inadequate 15 years after the commission first studied the issue. The report released Thursday is a follow-up to a 2003 report that described the shortfalls as a quiet crisis. Funding has remained mostly flat, leaving tribes unable to tackle climate change, an epidemic of suicides and violence against women.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man is accused of running over a Salt Lake City restaurant employee who confronted the man about unauthorized use of the business' parking lot. A criminal information charges 27-year-old Patrick Walker of Sandy with aggravated assault and failure to stop at a serious-injury accident.
