NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Help is on the way for Oklahoma's defense. The Sooners struggled to provide support their dynamic offense this season, but they signed a strong class despite having an interim defensive coordinator calling the shots. Among the four-star additions defensively were defensive backs Jeremiah Criddell, Jaden Davis, Woodi Washington and Jamal Morris, linebackers Jonathan Perkins and Joseph Wete and linemen Derek Green, Marcus Hicks, Kori Roberson and Marcus Stripling.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas coach Tom Herman's latest recruiting class has a heavy dose of out-of-state talent headlined by wide receiver Jake Smith of Arizona. Smith is the Gatorade national offensive player of the year after amassing 2,349 all-purpose yards and 39 total touchdowns as a senior at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale.. He is one of 11 players in the 21-player Longhorns class that come from outside of Texas.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State junior running back David Montgomery has a big decision to make after the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. If Montgomery decides to jump to the NFL, the Cyclones just signed two backs who could serve as his replacements as early as next season.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Napheesa Collier had 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds and No. 1 Connecticut overcame a 12-point, second-half deficit to beat Oklahoma 72-63. Katie Lou Samuelson added 20 points and 11 rebounds to help the Huskies (10-0) win their 125th consecutive regular-season game and 57th straight nonconference regular-season game.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas and Kansas State are already going head-to-head under their new coaches, even though they won't meet on the field for months. That's because Jayhawks coach Les Miles and Wildcats coach Chris Klieman are already targeting many of the same prospects as they try to assemble their initial recruiting classes in condensed timeframes.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Dual-threat quarterback Max Duggan and a rugby-style punter from Australia are among 22 players TCU added on the first day of the early signing period. Twelve of the 22 Horned Frogs signees were from Texas. Duggan was the Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year. TCU also signed four-star running back Daimarqua Foster from Wichita Falls, Texas.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech added 11 players on the first day of the early signing period for new coach Matt Wells. The early period came less than three weeks after Wells became the new coach. The early signees included quarterback Maverick McIvor and defensive back Alex Hogan. Both were early commits to the Red Raiders who initially de-committed after Kliff Kingsbury was fired Nov. 25 before meeting with the new coaching staff.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Kayla Wells had a career-high 26 points, N'dea Jones had 17 rebounds and Chennedy Carter added a double-double as No. 23 Texas A&M had a big second half to hand USC its first loss of the season 71-51. The Aggies (9-2) trailed 32-28 at the half, then Carter and Wells split 32 points in the second half and Jones grabbed 11 rebounds.
