WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities in West Valley City have arrested two people in connection with a woman's hit-and-run death. KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports that West Valley City police arrested two people Sunday who share a home with the victim and had reportedly been arguing with her. Police say officers found 36-year-old Tequila Garcia lying injured in the street outside her home around 2 a.m. and tried to save her.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Arrests of people suspected of living in the U.S. illegally have increased 24 percent in a four-state region since President Donald Trump entered office, mirroring a national trend. The Salt Lake Tribune reports numbers released last week by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement show increasing arrests and deportations by the agency's Salt Lake City field office, which covers Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The state auditor says data about the homeless population is riddled with inconsistencies and doesn't help evaluate the effectiveness of different programs because of a lack of clear, measurable goals. The audit was designed to help state lawmakers decide which programs deserve funding, but it instead concluded better planning and goal setting is needed before any assessments can be made.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A far northern Utah county says it's ditching a system that determines whether vehicles are working properly based on tailpipe testing. The Cache County Council voted last week to move to rely on vehicles' own diagnostic testing. County officials say it makes economic sense as older vehicles are replaced by newer ones. The change is expected in 2021.
