IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Max Hazzard set career marks Saturday night with 10 3-pointers and 32 points and UC Irvine had a program-record 18 3-pointers in an 86-52 rout of Denver.
Hazzard opened the game with three straight 3-pointers and added another after Jonathan Galloway's layup to give UC Irvine a 14-0 lead. Hazzard had already surpassed his career bests with seven 3-pointers and 23 points in the first half when the Anteaters (10-2) built a 47-16 lead.
UC Irvine made 18 of 35 from 3-point range to surpass the previous record of 16 made 3-point field goals set on Feb. 17, 1996, against New Mexico State and on Feb. 13, 1999, against Cal State Fullerton.
The Anteaters led by double digits for the final 33 minutes and had their largest lead at 65-24 in the middle of the second half.
Joe Rosga and Donoven Carlisle had 11 points each to lead the Pioneers (4-8).
