PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Carson Wentz's back injury will sideline him for tomorrow's game at the Los Angeles Rams. The Eagles moved Wentz from doubtful to out on the injury list today. That means backup Nick Foles gets another opportunity to rescue the team he led to a Super Bowl victory last season. The 6-7 Eagles are still in the chase for a playoff spot.
UNDATED (AP) — Two NFL games are on the Saturday schedule. Houston visits the New York Jets this afternoon, and Denver hosts Cleveland tonight. The 9-4 Texans are closing in on the AFC South crown, with a playoff berth almost certain. Houston also has an outside chance at a first-round playoff bye. Cleveland and Denver both have losing records, but still have outside shots at the postseason. The Broncos are 6-7 and the Browns are 5-7-1.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A person familiar with the deal says the Washington Wizards have an agreement in principle to acquire Trevor Ariza (ah-REE'-zuh) from the Phoenix Suns for Kelly Oubre (OO'-bray) Jr. and Austin Rivers. The person tells The Associated Press the Wizards landed Ariza directly from the Suns after a reported three-way trade involving the Memphis Grizzlies fell apart. Ariza's contract expires after this season.
NEW YORK (AP) — The World Series champion Boston Red Sox owe $11.95 million in luxury tax for having baseball's top payroll. That's according to final calculations by the commissioner's office obtained by The Associated Press. Because Boston was more than $40 million over the tax threshold, it became the first team to incur a new penalty put in place for the 2018 season: the top Red Sox selection in next June's amateur draft will be dropped 10 places. The only other team that owes is the Washington Nationals, who must pay $2.39 million.
WINTERBERG, Germany (AP) — American Elana Meyers Taylor won a bronze medal in one bobsled race today, then celebrated finishing last in a race against men. Meyers Taylor, a three-time Olympic medalist for the U.S., teamed with Lake Kwaza to win the bronze. She also drove women in the four-person event, finishing 19th out of 19 sleds while competing against 72 men. It was the first time the U.S. had an all-female team in a four-person World Cup race. Meyers Taylor was joined by Tiffeny Parker, Nicole Brungardt and Jessica Davis.
