OGDEN ā Weber State had waited a long time to celebrate a win over BYU.
Randy Rahe had never beat the Cougars. Dave Rose had never lost to the Wildcats.
That all changed on Saturday night in Ogden.
Weber State collected its first win over BYU since 2003 with a 113-103 victory at Dee Events Center.
Jerrick Harding led the Wildcats with 30 points and was key in the Weber State run that helped blow the game open in the second half.
Harding drained a corner 3-pointer and Zach Braxton delivered a two-handed slam through contact to highlight a 10-2 run that pushed Weber Stateās lead to 11, 66-55.
BYUās offense was good enough to get back into the game, but the Cougars couldnāt stop the Wildcats. Weber State scored 66 points in the second half on its way to victory.
And the loss would have been much worse for BYU if it were not for Yoeli Childs and Jahshire Hardnett. Childs led the Cougars with 31 points and Harnett scored 22 on the night. Those were the two BYU players in double figures; Weber State had six.
Hardnettās bucket with 2:00 remaining in the contest cut the Weber State lead to just eight points. Rylan Bergersen had an open 3-point attempt which would have cut the deficit to five, but the shot skipped off the rim.
Childs did hit a 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining to make it 103-97. After that, BYU had to hope the Wildcats would miss enough free throws down the stretch. They didnāt.
The loss drops BYU to 5-4 on the season. The Cougars have lost three games in a row.
