ALPINE — Police are investigating the shooting death of a dog in its backyard in Alpine — the third similar incident in about two weeks.

Officers responded to a report of the shooting Nov. 5 when the owners found the dog dead in their backyard. Police said the animal appeared to have been shot by a firearm — though officers are still unsure which type, according to a Facebook post by the Lone Peak Police Department.

Deputies are investigating a similar incident in Eagle Mountain after a woman found her dog shot to death in her backyard Sunday.

Another dog died on the way to a veterinary hospital Oct. 28 after an Ogden resident heard a gunshot noise and the yelping of an animal and came out to find the neighbor’s dog limping and wounded. The Human Society of Utah is offering $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot and killed the animal.

Those with information about the Alpine incident can contact the Lone Peak police at 801-756-9800 or Utah Valley dispatch at 801-794-3970.

Those with information about the Eagle Mountain shooting can contact police at 801-786-6701 or Utah Valley Dispatch at 801-784-3970, and reference case number 18UC11887.

Those with information about the Ogden incident can contact police at 801-395-8221 or email detectives@ogdencity.com.
