TOOELE — A Tooele police officer fired several shots at a man Wednesday morning after the man pointed a pistol at the officer, police said.
Late Tuesday night, officers got a call from a woman who had walked to a nearby gas station and called police after her boyfriend severely beat her, according to an emailed statement from the Tooele County Sheriff's Department. She was taken to the hospital with several facial injuries, including swelling around her eye and mouth.
Police responded to a home near 100 West and 860 North, where the woman said she was beaten. Two officers approached the front door of the home while a third officer stood in a position where he could see the back door.
Officers tried to summon those in the home to the front door, but a man exited out the back door and pointed a pistol at the third officer, the sheriff's office said. The officer fired several times at the man who eventually surrendered and dropped to the ground. No one was hit or injured.
Officers then arrested Chris Ono, a parolee, who was booked into the Tooele County Jail.
The Tooele County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.
