LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah (AP) — Professional photographers are upset to learn they will be charged $125 for a special permit fee and $50 per shoot to be able to take pictures in a picturesque northern Utah area full of vivid summer wildflowers. The Deseret News reports U.S. Forest Service officials recently began getting tough on permits and fees because large crowds at Little Cottonwood Canyon's Albion Basin are taking a toll on resources.
TREMONTON, Utah. (AP) — A 32-mile (51 kilometer) stretch of Interstate 84 in northern Utah reopened Saturday after being closed Friday night by a wind-driven wildfire that burned 23.4 square miles (61 sq. kilometers) of grassland close to the Utah-Idaho border. The Standard-Examiner reported that the freeway was reopened at about 4 a.m. after firefighters established containment lines that also saved hundreds of acres of grain fields but that the lightning-sparked fire continued to threaten rangeland and farms.
MOAB, Utah (AP) — A 15-year-old Boy Scout who had been missing since going mountain biking with his troop near Moab in eastern Utah has been found safe and in good condition. The Grand County Sheriff's Office says Kyler Wood of Vineyard was spotted Saturday morning by a state Department of Public Safety helicopter.
GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — Grand Canyon National Park is closing a scenic road to a North Rim vista and two trails because of a lightning-caused wildfire that has grown to 3.5 square miles. Park officials said Cape Royal Road, Cape Final Trail and Cliff Spring Trail would be closed Saturday night for public and firefighter safety.
