PINEDALE, Wyo. (AP) — A 13-year-old Utah Boy Scout survived partly on bugs and bark during the nearly 37 hours he was lost in the western Wyoming wilderness. Garrett Hunter was found safe at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday by volunteer searchers who happened to camp that night near where the boy had stopped to wait for rescuers. Rough terrain and darkness forced the search group to camp for the night and wait until Monday morning to take the boy, who has autism, out of the mountainous Bridger Wilderness.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a teenager who ran away from a youth-treatment program in Utah has been found safe. Officials with Redcliff Ascent said Saturday that 13-year-old Roberto Madrigal was found on the side of a road in Beaver County, hungry but otherwise healthy. The California native ran away remote southern Utah location near St. George on Thursday. He'd been in the program for about a month when he disappeared.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Police in Logan are keeping stray animals in kennels at the station after a split with the local chapter of the Humane Society left the city without an animal shelter. The Herald Journal newspaper reports the rift that started over impounding and boarding fees has grown increasingly fraught, and the shelter has now closed the doors and changed the locks.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Medical bills for a Utah jail inmate are nearing $1 million, sparking the sheriff's resignation and highlighting widespread struggles to pay for inmate health care. Jails are required to provide inmates with necessary medical care, and the Salt Lake Tribune reports the cost of 49-year-old Gerardo Valerio Romero's cancer treatment has outstripped the Utah County sheriff's medical budget.
