LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man police say fatally stabbed a Washington woman for $800 has been charged with first-degree murder.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that 24-year-old Cole J. Marcell of Kamiah was charged Friday in 2nd District Court. Bail was set at $1 million.
The body of 32-year-old Sarah N. Warden of Clarkston, Washington, was found July 7 at Mud Springs Pond near Winchester in Idaho.
Authorities say her body might have been in the pond for as long as a month. An autopsy found slashes and puncture wounds that authorities say appeared to come from a knife.
Court records say Marcell planned to rob Warden of her $800 Social Security check.
Marcell was arrested Wednesday, and police say he had a large knife and Warden's debit card.
