UPDATE: The fire has grown to 476 acres as of Sunday morning, BLM spokeswoman Heather O'Hanlon said. No additional evacuations have been announced.
VERNAL — A wildfire burning in north-western Uintah County is prompting the evacuation of several campgrounds.
Massey's Meadow Campground in Dry Fork was evacuated Saturday evening, along with all BLM campgrounds in the area, officials with the Uintah County Sheriff's Office said.
The Pine Ridge Fire was sparked shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday in an area west of Dry Creek, about 18 miles northwest of Vernal, according to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center. It has since burned more than 150 acres, and its cause is unknown.
Heather O'Hanlon, external affairs officer for the BLM's Green River District, said several fire engines and ground crews are working to extinguish the fire. Two heavy air tankers are also dropping fire retardant on the flames, she said.
Fire officials said an earlier reported threat to structures has diminished, and no homes are under evacuation orders.
