LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky will host Utah next season before facing the Utes in 2019 in the first of consecutive contests in Las Vegas.
The Dec. 15 meeting at Rupp Arena will mark the first regular-season game between the schools since the Wildcats topped the Utes in November 1999. Kentucky will play Utah on Dec. 18, 2019 at Las Vegas before meeting Ohio State there three days later in a previously-scheduled matchup of the CBS Sports Classic. Kentucky is 9-2 all-time against Utah.
Utah's December visit is part of Kentucky's still-developing non-conference schedule that includes Duke in the Champions Classic (Nov. 16), Seton Hall in the Citi Hoops Classic (Dec. 8) and North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic (Dec. 22).
"We feel that this will be a great opportunity to challenge our team early in the season," Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "This is one of the elite programs in the nation, who year-in and year-out, are ranked No. 1 in attendance. This will be a good experience for us to compete at a high level and help us prepare for league play."
Both teams are coming off 20-win seasons and postseason appearances in 2017-18. Utah went 23-12 overall and earned a NIT appearance where they would be victorious through the first three rounds of the tournament and earning the program's fourth trip to the NIT Final Four. Utah defeated Western Kentucky in the semifinals, but fell to Penn State in the championship game.
The Wildcats went 26-11 overall on the season and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
