SALT LAKE CITY — Judge Memorial Catholic High School’s Head Coach Kelly Terrill, father of star sophomore Jack Terrill, unleashed his Bulldogs on the rest of the 3A competition standing in their way to the state championship game. It’s safe to say the age old question of “who let the dogs out?” has been answered: coach Kelly Terrill.

The Bulldogs advanced to the state title game after dismantling Delta, 8-2, Friday. The first half was a tight game at 2-1, but the Bulldogs erupted for six goals in the second half. Judge Memorial was aggressive from the opening kick and kept the Rabbits from advancing the ball for much of the game.

In three playoff games, the Bulldogs have outscored their competition at a staggering rate of 24-3. Terrill said an emphasis for the team all season was to focus on the attack and to keep the pressure on opposing defenses to stop the Bulldog forwards.

“The strength of the team is the attack,” Terrill said. “I think we’ll be able to keep it up because that’s what we’ve focused on in every practice. We’re going to get goals tomorrow.”

Terrill was second on the team in goals against Delta with two excellent shots. The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was fellow sophomore Dominic Arias, who knocked in three goals, all while coming off the bench. Depth proved to be important for Judge Memorial as their goalie, junior Jaciel Guzman suffered a possible broken nose early in the first half. When Guzman left the game, the next man up was junior Caleb Castro.

“The bench is great, Dominic came in today and played great. Especially Caleb in the back of the goal, he’s a great keeper too,” added Terrill.

Coach Terrill noted the importance of the team’s strong bench performance giving the starters some well needed time to catch their breath.

“We were able to rest our starters, they were playing well,” Coach Terrill told reporters. “We ended up really rolling in the second half. We got one kid with a hat trick who isn’t even in the starting lineup.”

Coach Terrill was asked what stood out to him about his championship caliber team to which he replied simply, “We score goals. That’s what we do.”

The Bulldogs will face off tomorrow for the 3A title against a familiar foe, the Morgan High School Trojans. The Trojans are 0-2 on the season against the Bulldogs, surrendering eight total goals in those two matches.

The Terrill family has significant history in the state championship. Coach Kelly Terrill won his first title in 2010 with Jack’s older brother, Ross. Kelly’s brother Kurt also won a state championship for Judge Memorial during his time as a student. Jack has a chance to add his name to the list of winning Terrill’s after tomorrow’s match. Judge Memorial has three men’s soccer titles and the Terrill’s fingerprints have been all over each of them.

“I’m looking to keep the tradition going,” said Jack, “Just trying to follow the footsteps of the family. My brother won it, I wanna win it, my uncle won it, I wanna win it.”

Morgan 3, American Leadership 2

At Alta, Inigo Polo Lopez scored twice to help the Trojans edge American Leadership and advance to Saturday's title match at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

Brecklyn Bond also scored for Morgan.

Joe Valle scored two goals for ALA.
