SCIPIO — Five people were injured in a rollover crash that caused the closure of southbound I-15 Sunday evening.
The single-vehicle crash occurred about 6:20 p.m. near milepost 196, approximately 8 miles north of Scipio, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.
An adult and four children were traveling in a GMC Yukon when one of the tires blew and caused the vehicle to roll, said UHP Sgt. Jared Cornia.
Prior to the crash, one of the children had unbuckled their seat belt to help another child in the car. The unbuckled child was ejected from the car during the crash and suffered head injuries, Cornia said.
The unbuckled child was transported to Primary Children's Hospital by medical helicopter in fair condition while the adult and three other children were transported by ambulance. All five occupants are expected to survive, Cornia said.
Further information about the occupants' genders or exact ages was not immediately available.
Southbound I-15 was temporarily closed while officials worked to clear the scene.
