The Wasatch Front may be a destination in its own right, but if the winter blues have a hold on you, it may be time to hit the road and put some miles between you and the snow.

Whether you’re a sports fanatic, a theatre buff or an outdoors person, you’ll find something to love on this list.

So get out that road trip playlist, stock up on snacks, and roll down the windows. These four spring break road trips are sure to make your friends green with envy.

Catch a ballgame

Put a little madness into your road trip this March Madness season with some rousing college hoops. This year, you can see NCAA Tournament action in Los Angeles March 22-24. It's about a 10-hour drive from most areas of the Wasatch Front.

The top four seeds in the West Regional are tournament regulars Xavier, University of North Carolina, Michigan and Gonzaga. Chances are they will still be dancing when the tourney rolls into L.A. If one or more fall before then, you'll get to see to the NCAA's latest Cinderella story.

Be sure to deck out your car with team merchandise to show your team spirit. Drive the SUV, so you have extra space to bring tailgating gear to get pumped up before the game.

And don’t forget to bring your brackets, so you can compare who’s the best (or luckiest) at guessing this season’s standout teams.

Raise the stakes in Sin City

One of the best winter getaways is a road trip to Las Vegas. Just six hours south of Salt Lake City, you’ll be transported from a winter wonderland to a desert oasis.

Whether you’re a gambler, foodie, theatergoer or a sports fan, Vegas has it all. If you’re taking the kids, check out some of the many kid-friendly shows and attractions like:

  • A dinner show at Tournament of Kings
  • A ride up the High Roller Ferris wheel at the Linq
  • Magic-comedy acts like Mac King
  • The Nevada State Railroad Museum.
Keep in mind that not everything worth seeing is at the strip. A 30-mile drive will take you to the Hoover Dam, a spectacular feat of human ingenuity and engineering. You can stroll across the dam and go through the visitor center for free, or buy tickets to the dam tour or powerplant tour for an inside look at the structure.

Camp under the stars in Grand Canyon

If bright lights and desert sun aren't your speed, slow things down in one of the world’s greatest natural monuments: the Grand Canyon. Although the drive is a little longer, it’s worth a trip to the South Rim, where the weather is warmer and the park is still open to camping.

There are several campsites to choose from. Plan ahead and make reservations if possible. Even in late winter, campgrounds are popular and fill up quickly.

To make those extra hours in the car more comfortable, consider taking a larger car to better accommodate all the gear (and your family). The Nissan Pathfinder SUV is a great option, boasting seven passenger seats, lots of under-floor storage, and road-trip worthy 27 mpg on the highway.

Get weird in Portland

Portland, Oregon, is known for being a little out there. But even if you don’t claim the title weird, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this Pacific Northwest city.

For the outdoorsy family, there is a range of hiking, camping and day-trip options, including the scenic trails at the Hoyt Arboretum the panoramic views from Saddle Mountain and the challenging heights of Indian Point Loop.

If you're more city-folk, downtown Portland has lots to offer too. From world-class, tax-free shopping, to cultural and historic attractions like Powell Books and the Lan Su Chinese Garden.

Whatever your interests, you're sure to find a road trip that's fun for you and the whole family. If you're ready to hit the road, but just need the right vehicle, talk to a Nissan professional like those at Ken Garff Nissan. You'll be behind the wheel in no time.
