Lafayette pulls away from American 90-83 behind Petrie

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Alex Petrie scored 27 points and E.J. Stephens scored 16 with six assists and three rebounds and Lafayette pulled away from American with a 90-83 win on Saturday.

American took its final lead of the game with a 3-pointer from Sam Iorio to make it 63-62 with 12:06 left before Eric Stafford followed with a quick 3-pointer for Lafayette.

Stafford hit a jump shot and Stephens made a 3 and it was 74-67. Stafford made another jumper to extend the lead to 79-69. The Eagles used a 14-7 run and drew within 86-83 with 24 seconds remaining on Sa'eed Nelson's layup but never got closer.

Justin Jaworski scored 17 points for Lafayette (8-18, Patriot League), Matt Klinewski, 12 and Stafford, 11. The Leopards finished 31-of-48 shooting (64.6 percent) from the field,

Iorio led American (3-12, 6-20) with 26 points and 11 rebounds, Nelson scored 20 and distributed six assists, Larry Motuzis scored 16 and Cheikh Diallo 12.
