MORGAN — A semitruck driver was arrested for driving under the influence after he was unable to remain upright during a sobriety test Sunday, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.
Joe Medina, 45, was swerving back and forth on I-84 in Morgan County while traveling east in a commercial semitruck, according to Morgan County deputy Jeremy Jaques.
Jacques followed Medina until he was able to safely pull him over near Devil's Slide. Medina was unable to stand when asked to perform several sobriety tests and showed multiple signs of intoxication, Jaques said.
Medina denied he had been drinking.
Jacques searched Medina's vehicle and found bottles of Captain Morgan rum and pills that Medina said he borrowed from a family member for the flu. Records show that Medina had previously been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Medina was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail Sunday. He has since been charged on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession or use of a controlled substance, having an open container or drinking alcohol in a vehicle and violating the guidelines for an alcohol restricted driver.
Medina is being held on $5,535 cash-only bail.
