Sandra Yi ReportingThere were some tense moments at a Midvale Credit Union today. The bomb squad was called out to take care of a suspicious package.
It happened at 6799 S. 900 East at a Granite Credit Union. Employees found a suspicious box in the parking lot this morning. It was a canvas cooler left in a parking stall. They called police, who called in the fire department. They didn't want to take any chances so the bomb squad was then called in.
Authorities sent in a robot to open the cooler.
Tony Mason, Asst. Chief, Midvale Fire Dept.: "Fortunately it was unzipped just a little bit. They were able to open it up with a robot and see there was nothing in there."
As this was all happening, police shut down part of 900 East to traffic. Credit Union employees stayed in the basement until the situation was over. It took about an hour.
Fortunately, this didn't turn out to be anything, but police say they take every situation seriously.
