PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Cameron Bacote scored 22 points and Sean Hoggs added 15 and Maryland-Eastern Shore held off scrappy Central Penn College 74-69 on Sunday.
Central Penn College (7-8) is a Division II-member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Against Maryland-Eastern Shore, the Knights played their fifth NCAA Division I opponent and are scheduled to face one more.
Maryland-Eastern Shore (4-11) built a 48-34 halftime lead before the Knights got back in it with a pair of layups and three free throws from Randy Dupont to reduce the deficit to 50-46 with 13:55 left.
Dupont — who finished with 21 points — buried another jumper to bring Central Penn within 55-51. Joel Zola's 3 brought the Knights within a point with 7:54 to go but couldn't get closer.
The Hawks used an 8-1 run to create safe space for 67-59 lead, capped by a pair of Logan McIntosh free throws. McIntosh scored 12 points with six boards, Miryne Thomas scored 11 with six rebounds and Ahmad Frost had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Noah Baylor helped Central Penn with 12 points and eight rebounds and Zola had 10 and five respectively.
