TYLERTOWN, Miss. (AP) — The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down in southern Mississippi.
A mobile home was damaged and moved about 3 feet (1 meter) off its foundation while a storage shed was overturned and destroyed. No one was injured.
A survey shows a twister with top winds of 77 mph (125 kph) struck north of the Salem community in Walthall County at 6:39 a.m. Wednesday. The tornado, rated EF-0 on the enhanced Fujita scale, traveled for 200 yards (180 meters). The path was about 50 yards (45 meters) wide.
Weather Service forecaster Robert Ricks says the storm was part of a line of thunderstorms along a frontal boundary pushing southeast through Mississippi and Louisiana.
Some tree branches were snapped about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) away at the same time.
