SALEM, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police have identified a man who was fatally shot after allegedly pointing a handgun at three sheriff's deputies investigating a bank robbery.
The state agency announced Monday that the dead suspect was 57-year-old Robert Allen Morrison of Charlottesville.
State police are investigating. The Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office said the deputies responded to a call about a robbery-in-progress Friday at Cornerstone Bank, and spotted Morrison running behind an adjacent building. State police say the deputies challenged Morrison and shot him after he pointed a handgun at them.
Authorities have not identified the deputies, nor have they reported the races of those involved.
