SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Deion Holmes scored 25 points, Malik Moore had 13 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, and South Carolina Upstate beat NAIA Coastal Georgia 83-75 on Monday.
Holmes made a 3-pointer with 4:29 remaining to push Upstate's lead to 74-62 but Coastal Georgia answered with an 8-0 run.
Mike Cunningham hit an open 3-pointer from the wing to extend Upstate's advantage to 79-73 with just under a minute to go. Coastal Georgia turned it over on its next possession and Holmes' two-handed dunk on a breakaway sealed it.
Ramel Thompkins added 13 points and Jure Span 12 for Upstate (4-10), which made 10 of 23 3-pointers. Span also had six assists as the Spartans finished with 17 on 29 field goals. It was Holmes' 13th 20-plus game of his career.
Haylen Washington scored 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting for Coastal Georgia. Jaylen Smallwood added 12 points.
