E. Michigan holds off Long Beach St. with 85-80 win

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Elijah Minnie scored 23 points and James Thompson IV scored 19 points and gathered 11 rebounds and Eastern Michigan beat Long Beach State 85-80 on Saturday night.

Kevin McAdoo's layup with 14:05 left gave Eastern Michigan (8-2) a 48-47 lead and the Eagles never trailed again. Eastern Michigan has won three straight and four of its last five.

Jordan Griffin made a 3-pointer to bring Long Beach State (5-8) to within 83-80 with 25 seconds left. On the Eagles' next possession, Deishuan Booker came up with a steal, but Bryan Alberts missed a 3-point attempt to tie it and Tim Bond sealed it with a dunk with nine seconds left.

Paul Jackson scored 18 and McAdoo added 10 points for the Eagles. Eastern Michigan shot 53 percent (33 of 62) from the field.

Gabe Levin led the 49ers with 22 points, Alberts, 18 and Griffin had 17.
