BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful man has been charged with sexually abusing and kidnapping a toddler.

Kyle Curtis Jones, 22, was charged Monday in 2nd District Court in Davis County with one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and one count of child kidnapping, first degree felonies.

On Nov. 12, Bountiful police received a report of a missing child, according to charging documents. Before police showed up, the mother of the missing girl saw her daughter heading toward her home with Jones, who is a neighbor.

The mother asked her daughter what happened, court documents say, and the child told her Jones had taken her into his basement apartment to look at some trains. The child said Jones then placed her on a bed, partially lowered her pants and sexually abused her, charging documents state; the girl also told her mom that Jones said “sorry.”

Police learned from Jones’ parents that he has been diagnosed with “developmental delays and autism,” according to court documents.

When police interviewed Jones, he said he found the girl jumping on a trampoline in his backyard, and brought the child back to her parents, charging documents say. When investigators asked if the girl went inside his apartment, Jones said the child had been inside his apartment to see his model trains.

Investigators then asked what happened after Jones showed the child the trains, and he said he did not want to keep answering questions, charging documents state.
