LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Keith Smith had 19 points with six assists and Austin Vereen added 14 as VMI took its sixth straight win over Longwood, rolling to an 81-70 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Vereen came off the bench to drill four from distance and grab six rebounds. Tyler Creammer added 12 points with seven rebounds and Bubba Parham chipped in 11 points for VMI (4-5).
The Keydets trailed early but rallied to take a 44-34 lead into the break. Bryant stayed close in the second period, closing to 58-56 midway. Vereen and Smith drilled consecutive 3-pointers to get VMI rolling and the Keydets pulled ahead 80-65 late and cruised to the win.
B.K. Ashe led Longwood (3-6) with 21 points. Isaiah Walton added 19 and Damarion Geter chipped in 14. Chris Shields pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lancers, who had won three straight before falling to VMI.
