CLEARFIELD — Criminal charges were filed Friday against a 19-year-old Clearfield man accused of killing his 7-week-old son during an explosive moment of anger that included him throwing the child.
Clint Corydon Nokes is charged in 2nd District Court with aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, and intentional child abuse resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony.
Nokes "repeatedly abused" his son between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, "causing broken bones, a fractured skull, spinal damage, detached retinas and other injuries," according to charging documents.
Nokes called 911 on Dec. 1 to report that his son was not breathing, according to a Davis County Jail report. Doctors at Davis Hospital and Medical Center noticed "bruising on his head and ribs … a skull fracture, bleeding on the brain and detached retinas" before transferring the infant to Primary Children's Hospital. The boy died early on Dec. 2, less than 10 hours after the first 911 call.
When interviewed by police, Nokes allegedly said "he was tired of the baby crying and he finally 'exploded.' Clint stated he would 'chuck' him on the couch or 'chuck' him in his swing," according to the report.
"Clint stated he did grab the baby, held him in front of him, started jumping up and down, and the baby's head was going back and forth. Clint stated earlier in the week he had dropped the child in the kitchen sink and the baby struck his head," the report states.
An initial appearance in court is scheduled for Monday.
