Kernan leads Navy in 70-53 win over Coppin State

BALTIMORE (AP) — George Kiernan scored 17 points, Tom Lacey and Bryce Dulin added 13 apiece, and Navy beat winless Coppin State 70-53 on Wednesday night to win its fourth straight.

Hasan Abdullah added 10 points with four assists and six steals for the Midshipmen (8-3), who shot 51.9 percent from the floor to the Eagles' 33.3 percent.

Coppin State scored three straight 3s in a 12-0 run and trailed 42-29 early in the second half. Navy replied with an 8-0 run in which Lacey made back-to-back layups, and the Midshipmen led by 22 and were never threatened.

Lacey's 3-point play put Navy up for good, 9-6, and the Midshipmen pulled away on a 16-0 run in which Kiernan hit two 3-pointers. Navy led 35-14 at halftime behind Kiernan's 15 points.

Shawn Anderson had three assists for the 244th of his career to tie at 15th on Navy's career list.

Karonn Davis scored 16 points for Coppin State (0-9). The Eagles started last season with 12-straight defeats.
