UT Rio Grande Valley edges Rice 69-67

HOUSTON (AP) — Nick Dickson scored 19 points off the bench and UT Rio Grande Valley snapped a four-game skid, edging Rice 69-67 on Saturday afternoon.

Dixon was 6 of 13 from the field, including three 3-pointers for the Vaqueros (4-6). Xavier McDaniel Jr. added 13 points and seven rebounds and Dan Kimasa had 11 points.

Lew Stallworth made three 3-pointers early in the second half to help lift the Vaqueros to a 54-48 lead with 12:15 to play. Rice's Connor Cashaw hit a 3-pointer to cut it to 69-67 with 1:04 remaining but then he and Bishop Mency each missed from distance after that as time expired.

UTRGV led by 11 points, 21-10, early in the first half but fell behind with under a minute to go and trailed 36-32 at the break.

Malik Osborne led the Owls (2-6) with 14 points.
