SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials are warning that a program that insures thousands of lower-income children in the state could end early next year without more federal funding.
KUTV in Salt Lake City reports that the Utah Department of Health stated on its website Friday that the program can only last through January if the federal government doesn't approve more funding.
It could still get renewed later this month. Otherwise, families will have to look at other options such as the insurance marketplace.
The Children's Health Insurance Program provides coverage for roughly 20,000 children.
The coverage includes immunizations, doctor's visits, prescriptions and other services.
