SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The state office of education says Utah's public school enrollment is up 2.5 percent over last fall. That's 13,360 more students.

Officials last year had predicted a 2.4 percent increase.

The number of students who are Hispanic is up more than 6 percent, to 79,400, and the number of students in charter schools grew by more than 23 percent.

There are more than 551,000 students in Utah's public schools.

The latest numbers are preliminary and officials say they'll be finalized by Nov. 1.
