(KSL News) Students all over the country, including here in Utah, are getting a heavy dose of politics right now.
Diane Leaver's sixth-graders at Northstar Elementary are taking part in a national mock election program.
Her students divided into two parties, elected their candidates, and are now working on campaign signs and slogans.
Leaver says the goals of the program are to teach the students about the democratic process and how important it is to participate. Kids say they're eager to be part of the youth vote.
"Just because it's new things for kids and stuff, and it's good for them to know for when they get older and stuff," sixth-grader Jace Eriksson said.
For these kids, the mock vote comes Oct. 30.
