SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A man who was caring for a U-S soldier's five-year-old daughter now faces charges of child abuse.
The 25-year-old man has been charged with second-degree felony child abuse. Authorities say the man has been taking care of the disabled girl for the past ten months while her mother was on active duty in Iraq.
Court records show the girl's grandfather took the child to the hospital after he said she appeared underweight, fragile and weak. After being examined, the girl was said to only weigh 13 pounds.
According to court documents, doctors said she was extremely malnourished, dehydrated and in danger of dying.
The man was arrested and booked in jail on Friday. He's now being held on 50-thousand dollars bail.
