The Salt Lake Bees clinched the Pacific North division title, as they beat the Rainiers 3-1 in Tacoma on Monday night. Dustin Moseley (12-8) worked seven innings for the win, as he limited Tacoma to just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. Matt Wilhite ran into trouble in the eighth, as the Rainiers had runners at first and second with one out, but he struck out Jeff Clement and Hunter Brown to get out of the inning. Greg Jones worked a 1-2-3 ninth to record his sixteenth save, getting Oswaldo Navarro to pop out to second baseman Adam Pavkovich to wrap up the title.
The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the second with an unearned against Sandy's Jason Snyder on a run scoring single by Casey Smith. Salt Lake grabbed a 2-0 lead in the seventh as Smith scored on a two out double by Tommy Murphy. Tacoma cut the lead in half on a long home run by Orem's Jon Nelson, but Nick Gorneault got that run back with a leadoff homer in the ninth.
The division title is Salt Lake's first since 2002. The Pacific Conference Championship series begins on September 6 and 7 at Tucson with games three, and if necessary, four and five at Franklin Covey Field on September 8, 9 and 10.
