A wintry blast has come and gone, and it caused some problems over the weekend. A foot of snow fell in some places, and the wild weekend weather spilled into the morning commute.
A light snow fell this morning in parts of the Salt Lake Valley. Earlier it even hailed. About a mile stretch of eastbound Interstate 80 was shut down at State Road 201 for de-icing this morning. It now has reopened.
Yesterday a section of I-15 south of Brigham City was closed for two hours after 25 slide-offs and 22 crashes there.
The worst involved a Volkswagen. Troopers say the driver was going too fast and lost control. Both drivers and their passengers were taken to the hospital for serious and critical injuries. However, most of the accidents reported Sunday were minor.
Roy and the Bountiful bench saw the most snow. Almost a foot of it fell there. Elsewhere, 8 inches was not uncommon between Bountiful and north Ogden, all thanks to lake effect.
