Commuters on part of Interstate 80 faced some changes this morning, and more are coming.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) reopened the 700 East westbound off-ramp and closed the westbound off-ramp at State Street.
This weekend, drivers should expect more changes. I-80 between 1300 East and 700 East in Sugarhouse will be restricted to two lanes in each direction Saturday morning at 8 a.m., then shrink to one lane after 8 p.m. and will close by 11 p.m.
UDOT spokesman Adan Carrillo said, "We're hoping that by Sunday morning, or Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., we'll have it open. We're trying to beat that deadline by as much as we can."
Carrillo says a week from now it will be three lanes and smooth driving. "Monday morning drivers will see a significant difference as they drive on new pavement," he said.
UDOT advises drivers to avoid that stretch this coming weekend.
