FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Joel Lanning has gone from being a starting quarterback at Iowa State to chasing quarterbacks as a linebacker. The 6-foot-2 senior started 14 games at quarterback the last two years, but is now listed a starting linebacker. He made the switch during the spring. Former transfer Jacob Park became the primary quarterback the second half of last season for the Cyclones and now is the starter.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Two months ago, Lincoln Riley was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma. Now the 33-year-old Riley is the youngest head coach in the Bowl Subdivision after Bob Stoops' surprise retirement following 18 seasons, 10 conference titles and a national championship. Riley says the last two years have prepared him to take over. The Sooners are favored to win a third straight Big 12 title.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby feels good about what the 10-team league is doing. Bowlsby says the decision to restore a football championship game was based on the league wanting to optimize its chances of getting a team into the College Football Playoff. The Big 12 has missed the playoff two of the first three years.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Micaya White, who helped lead Texas to the NCAA women's volleyball final last season, has been charged with driving while intoxicated by campus police. The incident allegedly occurred in March. According to Travis County state district court records, White is schedule to appear in court on Aug. 4.
