(KSL News) Snowplow drivers are on standby tonight for canyon roads. The Utah Department of Transportation is monitoring weather conditions and will decide if and when to send them out.

Nationwide, transportation departments are worried there's a salt shortage. But thanks largely to the Great Salt Lake, Utah's in good shape.

UDOT Spokesman Adan Carillo explained, "Here in Utah we are very lucky. Our suppliers actually work with us closely. Ninety percent of our salt comes from local suppliers. The other 10 percent is specialized salt that comes from other states."

Due to the price of fuel and the economy, the price of salt has gone up. UDOT says it's keeping a close eye on its budget.
