"THIS IS US" — EMMY NOMINATIONS -

LOS ANGELES (AP) — You've heard of throwback jerseys — how about a throwback TV series. Like the old-school outfits many sports teams dust off and spring on fans, they combine a heavy dose of nostalgia with a modern look and feel. It's the same way TV audiences seemed to take to the rookie NBC "This Is Us." It's a show that harkens back to the old days — when TV was often a shared and emotional experience. Viewers got that — and apparently so did the Emmy voters. The show picked up 11 nominations — including one for best drama series. The series also yielded up two nods for best actor in a drama and two more for best supporting actor and supporting actress.

"SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" TIES FOR MOST EMMY NODS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — We don't know if Alec Baldwin or Melissa McCarthy will dedicate their possible Emmy win to President Donald Trump and his combative press secretary Sean Spicer. But it would be no surprise if they did. Both comedians are up for their work on "Saturday Night Live" — which in the months before and after the presidential campaign mined the doings of the Trump administration for comedic gold. Overall, SNL picks up 22 nominations, tying it with the HBO drama "Westworld" for most this Emmy season.

EMMY - COMEDY SERIES

LOS ANGELES (AP) — She already has the record for most wins for a lead comedy actress at the Emmys. And Julia Louis-Dreyfus is position to add another Emmy to that mark. She was nominated for her 7th yesterday — for her work in HBO's "Veep." She's won for the show five times before — and also has one for "The New Adventures of Old Christine." While showering favor on old Emmy fixtures like Louis-Dreyfus, Emmy voters showed a willingness to embrace that which is fresh, new — and diverse. Other shows that earned nods for best comedy include Donald Glover's rookie FX series "Atlanta" and Netflix's "Master of None," starring Aziz Ansari.

EMMY ODDS AND ENDS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In every Emmy year there are some interesting tidbits — and here are a few of them:

— A pair of Oscar winners have received their first-ever Emmy nods. They are Robert De Niro, for playing "Bernie Madoff in "The Wizard of Lies." And Reese Witherspoon is up for an Emmy for her performance in "Big Little Lies."

— Samantha Bee has scored three Emmy nominations this year. Her weekly satirical news show, "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," is up for variety-talk series. Her election special, "Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner," has a nod for variety special. And Bee is also nominated as a member of the "Full Frontal" writing staff.

— The all-female remake of "Ghostbusters" didn't rake in many awards. But its four lead actresses have each received Emmy nominations for their work on "Saturday Night Live." Cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are up for supporting actress in a comedy series — while Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are nominated as guest stars for hosting the show.

BILL COSBY TRIAL COSTS

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — What would you do if you had $219,000? That's what Pennsylvania's Montgomery County shelled out for the first criminal trial of comedian Bill Cosby. The cost to the local government of conducting the trial was released yesterday. A breakdown of the costs shows more than half of the amount went toward overtime for deputies, detectives, security guards and court workers. A big chunk of the money — more than a quarter of the $219 G — went to hotel stays for the jurors who were brought in from Pittsburgh for the case. Juror meals alone accounted for $14,000. And — they will have a chance to do it again — since prosecutors say they will retry Cosby in the fall. He's charged with drugging and molesting a former Temple University employee more than a decade ago.

DMX ARREST

NEW YORK (AP) — The tax man is trying to get paid — and get paid from DMX. The rapper has been arrested in New York on federal tax fraud charges. Prosecutors say the rapper owes $1.7 million in taxes — and has also engaged in a multi-year scheme to hide millions in income from the IRS. He's due in court to answer to the charges today.

HIP-HOP PODCASTER CHARGED WITH MURDER IN SHOOTING AT T.I. SHOW

NEW YORK (AP) — A hip-hop podcaster has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting at a popular New York concert venue before a T.I. performance. The suspect, Daryl Campbell, pleaded not guilty yesterday in New York State Supreme Court — and his attorney says he will fight the charges. The May, 2016 shooting at Irving Plaza happened just before T.I. was to perform. The man who was killed was a bodyguard of rapper Troy Ave. The rapper was also wounded in the shooting.

KERMIT THE FROG - UPDATE

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Frogs look pretty when they're sitting on a lily pad — but when you try to pick one up, you'll find they can be slippery. Also proving to be a little slippery — finding out what happened to the man who played Kermit the Frog for nearly 30 years. Steve Whitmire now says his leaving the gig he had for 27 years wasn't voluntary; he was fired. He says he was told in October that there'd be a new Kermit — but kept quiet in hopes he could talk his bosses into letting him stay on. Whitmire has been with the Muppets since 1978. He says he tried to resolve the reasons his bosses had been giving for wanting to let him go. Neither side has detailed what those reasons were.
