SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a fifth person was injured in a houseboat explosion along the Utah-Arizona border that killed a Colorado woman. The National Park Service said Thursday that a boy sustained minor injuries in the explosion that killed 52-year-old Kirsten Meyer of Castle Rock, Colorado. Four other people were critically injured. The boy was treated and released from a clinic at Lake Powell after the generator blew up when someone tried to start it on Wednesday night.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A lawyer for a Utah woman accused of trying to conceal her slain toddler's injuries with makeup says the girl's parents want permission to attend her funeral. The Standard-Examiner in Ogden reports attorney Susanne Gustin said Thursday she expects to request a furlough from jail for 22-year-old Brenda Emile after authorities release the girl's body.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a former nurse charged with infecting seven people with hepatitis C at an Ogden hospital is one of more than 400 people across the country accused in health care fraud and opioid scams. The U.S. Attorney's Office for Utah said Thursday that 50-year-old Elet Neilson spread the virus by stealing narcotic drugs and injecting herself before injecting patients.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say two people are dead after their small plane crashed south of Salt Lake City. Police say the small craft went down in Butterfield Canyon on Thursday morning. Unified Police of Salt Lake County say the wreckage was located by a helicopter near Herriman, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.
