As I mentioned yesterday, a reporter from USA Today was at BYU's practice, and afterward, spent a lot of time interviewing Bronco Mendenhall for the upcoming feature. Bronco tells me the interview was schedule for 20 minutes, lasted 40 minutes, and could have have gone an hour or longer (but he had to duck away for his weekly radio show...).

Bronco says based on the questions asked and the time spent, the piece could end up being a very substantial look into the organizational overhaul of the BYU Football program and its alignment with the mission of Brigham Young University. But, as always, he says he's never sure which angle the final version of the story will represent. Either way, look for the USA Today profile of Bronco and the Cougars in days to come.

Bronco confirmed last night that WR Austin Collie suffered a dislocated finger the other day. Aside from swelling and pain in the finger, Austin is ready to roll, and as observed at practice, was catching balls as if nothing were wrong. Bronco also said WR O'Neill Chambers' ankle turn was nothing to worry about.

WR Michael Reed is back in his starting "X" receiver spot. In Reed's absence, Collie had 16 catches. No other BYU wide receiver had more than 2 catches.

Did you know former BYU hoopster Rafael Araujo is in camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves? He may not be there long, however. He played only four minutes (1 point) in the Wolves' preseason opener a few days ago, and did not play in the Wolves' game last night. I'm told he recently picked up an injury, and word out of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is the Wolves are set to sign former Indiana center David Harrison--with Rafa "perhaps headed for Europe" (Araujo played in Russia last season).
