(KSL News) Robert Preece went on a crime spree after he was mistakenly released from jail last year, and now he will spend close to 20 years in federal prison.
Yesterday Preece was sentenced to 18 years behind bars in connection with three robberies committed in the fall of 2007. The crimes were handled federally because of violations of the Hobbes Act, which deals with disrupting commerce.
Salt Lake County Jail officials admitted Preece should not have been on the streets when the robberies occurred but that he had been freed due to a paperwork error.
