Years of hope and controversy culminate next week, Thursday Oct. 9 , when Real Salt Lake opens it's brand new Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

Players love the green grass, finally getting away from the artificial turf.

RSL management's counting on more than 20,000 fans, a first sellout in their first game in the new home.

The plot thickens when you consider they're hosting the NY Red Bulls, one of the many teams Real's battling to make the playoffs for the first time in RSL's four-year history.

KSL TV's Sports Director Tom Kirkland recently was treated to a walking tour of the new stadium with Real Salt Lake President Bill Manning. He's a native New Yorker who's background is in the NBA and NFL, where he was the Eagles Vice President of Sales and Service.
