LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Students in Logan will be able to sleep in a little longer next school year after the northern Utah city's school board approved later start times.
The Herald Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2nNWn3C) the board approved the new start times Tuesday. They will take effect in August.
Under the new schedule, Logan High School will start school 30 minutes later at 8:00 a.m.
Other schools affected by the change include Adams, Hillcrest, Wilson, Woodruff, Ellis and Bridger elementary schools and Mount Logan Middle School.
Schofield says the changes were made in response to public comments.
The school district's new schedule is in line with a measure that failed in the Utah Legislature this year.
The measure pointed to research showing lack of sleep among high schoolers leads to decreased attention and poor grades.
