HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The head of the Montana Board of Investments says the panel has never made a loan like the one House Speaker Austin Knudsen is proposing to help an owner of the Colstrip power plant. Knudsen wants $10 million a year to aid the operations of Talen Energy. The company is hemorrhaging money as the operator and co-owner of two of the coal-fired plant's four generating units. A Talen lobbyist says those older units could close as early as this year if Talen's financial situation doesn't turn around
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Itchy eyes and scratchy throats blamed on high levels of wintertime ozone have returned to western Wyoming's gas patch for the first time in six years. Energy companies say they've cut down on emissions that form ozone and the state had declared voluntary "ozone action days" when forecasts call for ozone-forming conditions.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An online auction of rights to drill on Wyoming state lands has brought in almost $30 million, the most since oil and gas were booming six years ago. The auction took place over a week.
SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — Bighorn National Forest officials are investigating an early-season wildfire in the Tongue River Canyon west of Sheridan. They say the fire was human-caused.
